“Trainspotting” (1996) by Irvine Welsh

As almost ever I walked the way back...from the film to the book. I remember vividly the first time I watched “Trainspotting” because two scenes were imprinted in my memory (no spoilers: the public toilet and the baby in the cradle) and I felt that, before me, there was not just another film of junkies but a powerful depiction of a lost generation, quite similar, in spite of the apparent differences between Edinburgh and our city, to those youngsters of the 80s in Vigo dealing with the aftermath of Industrial restructuring.
It is neither a plea against drugs nor a story that pretends to convince us of the evils of this underworld. In fact, its protagonists are aware of what they are living and, although, it may seem impossible, their addiction is not the cause of all their problems and misfortunes. Drugs are just another companion in their journey through loneliness and indifference, just like drinking, fighting or sex.
“Trainspotting” is four people together but alone. Four charismatic and auto-destructive troublemakers, socially rootless, but extremely connected to the darkest Edinburgh and the borough of Leith, in fact another character itself. All the stories are told in first person by its four protagonists, habitual offenders, addicted, abandoned, loved, hated but mostly ignored: after all, they don’t live in the same world as us, because we are on the trains leaving Waverley Station while they are there... “trainspotting.”
“Trainspotting” by Scottish author Irvine Welsh, gives voice to an entire and disappointed generation with irony and bitterness but above all with realism and lucidity. I do not dare to say (as Rebel.Inc magazine) “The best book ever written by man or woman… Deserves to sell more copies than The Bible” although the fact that it is worthwhile is undeniable.
And last but not least.
Even though it requires a slower reading path, the fact that it is written in Scots should be more of an incentive to follow the story and feel it, rather than an intimidating challenge

Eftir that, ye see the misery ay the world as it is, and ye cannae anaesthetise yirsel against it.”

"Save me the Waltz” by Zelda Fitzgerald

"Save me the Waltz"...beautiful title, isn´t it?. It conjures up pictures of glamorous high class couples dancing in spacious saloons with luminous chandeliers hanging from the ceiling. However, during the Roaring Twenties , it was Jazz music not classical music that was fashionable and was listened to in clubs. The novel is not concerned with parties although there are some of them in the novel and Alabama, the protagonist, appears at the end emptying ashtrays after the last party is over. Indeed, It all comes to an end. All ashes. Her father´s death, her broken dream to become a ballerina and her love for her husband are at the end of a long journey . Only the vivid image of Nature can be cathartic ...or not.
Alabama’s hard struggle to have her own identity ( there are mirrors everywhere) is also Zelda‘s struggle to find her own voice and style away from the shadow of her husband and escape patriarchal and patronizing behaviours.
That fight can be seen in the language. It ranges from the baroque and flamboyant language of the beginning of the novel to the more simple and plain style at the end , when she gets rid of the superflous in her life. In addition to that, the luxuriant colourful depictions of lanscape (above all The South)the surrealist, oneiric images and symbols show that her voice was unique, although her husband, Scott, derided her talents.
In the same way , Alabama´s husband, David, is clearly defined in two sentences "David, David, David, Knight, Knight , Knight and Miss Alabama Nothing". Narcissistic. Equally, she gives her beloved daughter some advice. "Never be a back-seat driver". Controlling
Alabama ( the author’s alter ego ) is well aware of the reasons of why theirs was a broken marriage. She must have felt alone many times (Both). Part bildungsroman, part autobiographical. The novel is insightful and deeply moving. ...Only a bit rambling.

Klara and the Sun, the Path towards Humanization
‘Klara and the Sun’ is Kazuo Ishiguro´s eighth novel. It builds a sensational fiction story that deeply elaborates on how an android can learn to gradually develop almost human feelings and social capabilities.
The book accurately narrates the interaction of a high technologically advanced artificial friend (AF) with the world. Because of its outstanding interpretation about human nature, it is eventually acquired for one specific task: providing detailed care and affection to an ill and biologically-enhanced young teenager. However, what might initially seem a basic job for such a talented cyborg, it steadily becomes such a tricky assignment due to the complexity of interpersonal relations.
This fabulous piece of work phenomenally depicts two current controversial themes, namely ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and ‘Human DNA alteration’. Although it does not follow a nail-biting plot, it keeps you continually connecting the dots so that you can understand which part every character plays in the tale. Therefore, it can increasingly engulf you as you go further throughout the novel. Moreover, the vision of the environment provided through Klara´s eyes, the android, leads you to strongly empathize with her and, ultimately, follow the plot.
Contrary to those deeming the book as risqué, it must be said that it mostly focuses on the emotional side, leaving controversy in the background. As a result, the chances are you will find the work as moving rather than provocative.
All in all, provided that you fancy entertaining yourself while somehow learning the complexity of social relationships from a quaint character, do not hesitate to give this book a chance.
L'amica geniale di Elena Ferrante
Elena Ferrante è lo pseudonimo di una scrittrice anonima che ha scritto L’amica geniale; un romanzo che racconta l’amicizia fra due ragazze. Il libro è stato pubblicato nel 2011. Dopo il successo del primo libro, sono usciti altri 3 libri: Storia di un nuovo cognome; Storia di chi fugge e di chi resta e Storia della bambina perduta.
Questo romanzo ha luogo in un rione napoletano pieno di povertà negli anni del dopoguerra. Le protagoniste sono due ragazzine che abitano lì: Raffaella Cerullo (conosciuta come Lila) e Elena Greco. Attraverso la loro storia abbiamo la possibilità di capire le diverse difficoltà che devono affrontare nel loro percorso scolastico. Loro sono le ragazze più brave della scuola e la loro insegnante, la maestra Oliviero, gli raccomanda di continuare a studiare. Ma la famiglia Cerullo e la famiglia Greco non hanno il denaro sufficiente per pagare la scuola alle figlie. Ma finalmente la famiglia Greco ascolta la signora Oliviero e Elena continua a studiare. Lila, invece, comincia a lavorare nel calzaturificio di suo padre. Alla fine Lila si sposa con Stefano Carracci, un ragazzo benestante del rione.
Rispetto alla scrittura del romanzo, voglio dire che mi è piaciuto come la scrittrice descrive accuratamente il rione e la sua povertà. La trama è molto interessante, soprattutto per capire gli ostacoli che avevano per studiare le persone con meno risorse.
Il vocabolario del romanzo all’inizio può diventare un po’ difficile perché a volte la scrittrice usa parole dialettali. Ma a poco a poco si ripetono molte parole e si capisce tutto. Consiglierei questo romanzo a persone con un livello abbastanza alto di italiano.
Io personalmente ho divorato tutti e quattro i libri in meno di un mese perché la storia mi ha presa e non potevo smettere di leggere la storia.
I giovedì della signora Giulia di Piero Chiara
Il giovedì della signora Giulia è un romanzo giallo scritto da Piero Chiara ed è stato pubblicato nel 1970. È ambientato in una piccola cittadina nel Nord di Italia sul lago Maggiore. Il libro è diviso in capitoli corti ed è scritto in 3ª persona con dialoghi agili. Tocca il tema della piccola borghesia, della giustizia e della ricerca criminale in una maniera sarcastica, ironica e con un sottile umorismo. È una storia che scorre veloce. Per Chiara non solo è importante la descrizione dei luoghi ma anche l´indagine psicologica dei personaggi.
Dovreste leggerlo se vi piacciono i romanzi gialli. Io al posto vostro lo leggerei perché è agile, divertente e quando inizi a leggerlo non puoi smettere. Mi è piaciuto tanto.
Consiglieri questo libro a studenti che abbiano un livello B1.
Eredità di Lilli Gruber
Mi piacerebbe esprimere la mia opinione sul libro Eredità della scrittice Lili Gruber.
La storia si svolge dal novecento al due mila e lei ci racconta, partendo dalle pagine del diario della sua bisnonna, il percorso vitale della propria famiglia attraverso gli eventi che sucedono in quei tempi in una regione che è nata austriaca e diventa italiana.
È un romanzo storico che mi è piacuto molto.Ho letto 340 pagine di una storia sentimentale e emozionante ma anche dura che mi ha preso dall'inizio e ho conosciuto un problema all'interno dell' Europa che mi era finora sconosciuto.
Non mi è sembrato molto difficile leggerlo e l'ho goduto un sacco. Lo consiglierei a qualsiasi persona perché mi pare una storia meravigliosa di speranza e d'impegno.
Io non ho paura di Niccoló Ammaniti
Il libro che ho letto s'intitola "Io non ho paura" di Niccoló Ammaniti.
Mi è piaciuto perché racconta la storia di un gruppo di amici nell'estate del 1978.
Mi è anche piaciuto perché è narrato in prima persona, con un linguaggio molto facile da capire.
Io credo che sia adatto per un livello B2(1), B2(2). A volte ho dovuto cercare qualche parola.
I gatti lo sapranno di Giovanni Ricciardi
Titolo: I gatti lo sapranno

La storia si svolge nel centro storico di Roma durante i primi anni del nostro secolo.
Possiamo dire che è un romanzo giallo ma anche di costumi in cui non solo si racconta la storia di un crimine, ma anche la vita dei cittadini romani durante una loro giornata qualsiasi.
Per me, l'aspetto più interessante è questa descrizione della società romana nei suoi livelli più bassi. Il romanzo mi è piaciuto, e lo consiglio senza dubbio ai miei compagni del B2-1.
Per concludere direi che il livello mi sembra piuttosto alto e alcuni dialoghi non sono facili da capire perché si usa un linguaggio coloquiale popolare.
Pista nera di Antonio Manzini
È il primo libro della serie del Vicequestore Schiavone. Ha 272 pagine e, secondo me, si può leggere in un fine settimana.
Il vicequestore Schiavone è il protagonista del romanzo. Lui è un personaggio strano, politicamente scorretto, corrotto, maschilista, a cui per punizione lo hanno trasferito da Roma sulle fredde montagne della Val d'Aosta.
Amedeo è un ragazzo che lavora risistemando la neve delle piste da sci quando una sera trova un cadavere irriconoscibile, sepolto sotto la neve. Schiavone dovrà cercare il colpevole tra i 400 cittadini di questo piccolo paesino dove tutti si conoscono e vivono grazie al turismo.
La trama è coinvolgente ma il protagonista non mi ha convinto del tutto, pieno di stereotipi romaneschi, secondo me.
Con un po' di pazienza uno studente del B-2-1 può leggerlo perché si capisce abbastanza bene.
Lessico familiare di Natalia Ginzburg
Oggi vi parlerò dell´ultimo libro che ho letto: Lessico famigliare.
È l´autobiografia di Natalia Ginzburg, scrittrice di origine ebrea, ambientata nell´Italia fascista degli anni´30, a Torino.
L´autrice descrive la storia della sua vita e quella della sua famiglia in modo semplice e allo stesso tempo curioso, poiché lo fa attraverso le frasi che hanno ripetuto per tutta la vita e che le hanno caratterizzate.
Si tratta di un´opera di facile lettura per studendi del llivello B1 che ci racconta la storia italiana del dopoguerra.
Nonostante mi sembra un libro originale e reale, non mi ha convinto ed è diventato troppo lungo (212 pagine) e melenso.

Si tratta di un romanzo in stile epistolare con continui riferimenti al passato lontano e a quello più immediato, che viene utilizzato per evidenziare la malinconia, la nostalgia e la solitudine di tutti i personaggi. Ed è anche per questo motivo che, a mio parere, i riferimenti alle case sono usati come metafora del tempo passato di ciascuna persona che ci vive e che accompagnano sempre i personaggi. Anche se, a volte, le lettere sono un po' ripetitive, succedono molte cose che incoraggiano ad avanzare nella lettura e a non fermarsi.
Lo stile è semplice, poco sofisticato e il lessico utilizzato credo che sia adatto al nostro livello. Vorrei sottolineare in particolare l'enorme quantità di aggettivi utilizzati per le descrizioni fisiche dei personaggi e anche l'abbondanza di verbi coniugati in passato, conseguenza, ancora una volta, dello stile epistolare.
Per concludere, mi sembra un libro interessante, facile da leggere e che mi è piaciuto molto e che, quindi, consiglio vivamente ai miei compagni del B2-1.
Credo che sia un bel libro che fa per tutti noi.

Bella Mia è un romanzo realistico che racconta la perdita delle persone amate e la necessità d’imparare a vivere di nuovo e superare i propri traumi dopo la tragedia del terremoto.
Questo libro mi è piaciuto tantissimo. Donatella Di Pietrantonio trasmette le emozioni e i sentimenti con una sensibilità straordinaria e non è per niente una storia sdolcinata né strappalacrime.
Lo consiglio vivamente. Secondo me è un libro stupendo, avvincente e commovente che vale la pena leggere.
Per quanto riguarda il livello d’italiano adatto per leggere questo libro penso che sia dal B2 in poi. Devo dire che ho dovuto cercare alcune parole sul dizionario.
LE OTTO MONTAGNE di Paolo Cognetti
Cominciano anche gli anni in cui Pietro inizia a camminare con suo padre.
Questo è un libro con 199 pagine, da un livello un po’ alto per me (B2-1), quindi ho dovuto cercare molte parole. Ma è una bella storia che mi è piaciuta tanto.
Ciao a tutti,
oggi ho appena letto il libro 8 montagne di Paolo Cognetti. Non leggevo una cosa del genere da molto tempo, tanto tempo. È agile come uno dei tanti sentieri che ci portano su una delle vette delle Alpi italiane. E se ci arrivi, ñp fai con la pausa di una madre, il silenzio di una vetta o la tensione di un padre per arrivare velocemente a destinazione. Con un'amicizia di 30 anni. Un'amicizia in mezzo a larici e fiumi sotterranei. Un'amicizia tra le montagne.
Inoltre è un romanzo che ti emoziona con una ricerca incessante e arricchente di nuove parole. Ciò fa sì che gli studenti del B2.1 si divertano a leggere, la comprendano e sentano la sensibilità di un viaggio emozionante.
Infine, un racconto che ti porta con entusiasmo su una cima dove non c'è un trofeo da ricevere, ma sì l'enorme soddisfazione di aver condiviso una storia sottile di 199 pagine e di viverla con i suoi protagonisti e, ovviamente, con il suo scrittore Paolo Cognetti..
Un libro che, senza dubbio, dovresti leggere.

L'Arminuta di Donatella Pietrantonio.
Il libro che vorrei consigliarvi è un romanzo di fantasia, vincitore del premio Campiello, che si intitola L’Arminuta ed è scritto da Donatella Pietrantonio.
Mi è piaciuto molto questo romanzo per il modo in cui è scritto , dato che ti fa entrare subito in empatia con i personaggi, ma anche per il suo argomento. Diciamo che è una storia toccante, piena di sentimenti ma non drammatica su una ragazzina tredicenne che non sapeva di essere stata adottata dai suoi zii, ma a un certo punto scopre che la sua famiglia è un’altra e non quella con cui aveva sempre vissuto.
Dal mio punto di vista, è un libro adeguato per alunni di un livello B2.
Le luci nelle case degli altri di Chiara Gamberale
Questo libro della scrittrice Chiara Gamberale è un romanzo sentimentale con uno sfondo sociale che racconta una bella storia ambientata nella capitale romana degli anni 90.
Mandorla, la protagonista, è una bambina costretta per le circostanze della vita a vivere a turni con diverse famiglie, abitanti tutte di un palazzo in Via Grotta Perfetta a Roma. Ma non tutto sarà così perfetto come suggerisce il nome, anzi, al contrario, la storia svelerà segreti inconfessabili e un finale sorprendente che non rivelerò.
Mi è piaciuto questo libro e lo consiglio ai miei compagni perché è coinvolgente al tempo che mostra una grande diversità di famiglie, persone e situazioni. Anche l’intreccio man mano che progredisce, motiva alla lettura.
Ma le stelle quante sono di Giulia Carcasi
Ma le stelle quante sono è un libro di Giulia Carcasi, nata nel 1984 a Roma.
Il romanzo racconta la relazione tra due ragazzi di 18 anni,Alice e Carlo, tutti e due con caratteri molto diversi, lei fragile e sognatrice, lui maturo ma ingenuo.
Attraverso le pagine del libro scopriremo la vita banale di due adolescenti: amore, amicizia, conflitti familiari, il liceo, la prova de maturità... Comunque si tratta di una storia con un approccio originale, basta capovolgere il libro per poter confrontare la visione maschile o femminile degli eventi.
Mi piacerebbe consigliare questo romanzo agli allievi d'Intermedio perché, personalmente, mi ha permesso di imparare molto vocabolario colloquiale.
Nove per due di Anna Maria Mori
Nove per due è un libro della giornalista e documentarista Anna Maria Mori, nata in Croazia ma esiliata in Italia con la sua famiglia, dove ha svolto il suo mestiere come scrittrice.
Il romanzo racconta un momento della vita di Mariarosa, una giovane trentenne che affronta per la prima volta la maternità, una maternità desiderata ma, ciò nonostante, piena di preoccupazioni.
La sua storia mi ha colpito perché sono davvero riuscita a mettermi nei suoi panni... quante donne non hanno avuto paura pensando a come conciliare lavoro e figli? Oppure quante non hanno sentito l'angoscia di poter essere cacciate dal lavoro soltanto per il fatto di essere diventate madri?
In conclusione, consiglio questo libro per il livello B1 giacché, utilizzando un lessico molto comprensibile, affronta un argomento molto interessante e attuale.
La vita accanto di Mariapia Veladiano
L'anno scorso ho letto La vita accanto, un romanzo di costume scritto da Mariapia Veladiano nel 2011 che si svolge a Vicenza, bella città del Veneto.
Il libro racconta la storia di Rebbeca, una bambina rifiutata da tutti a causa della sua bruttezza, che riesce,ciò nonostante, a superare tutte le difficoltà grazie all’amore per la musica e al suo indiscusso talento come pianista.
È a mio parere un libro commovente che consiglio a studenti di livello intermedio perché mantiene l'interesse fino alla fine e usa un lessico facile da capire.
Gomorra di Roberto Saviano
Gomorra è un’opera scritta nel 2006 da Roberto Saviano, scrittore e giornalista.
È una testimonianza delle sue esperienze nei paesi della Camorra e ci racconta l’organizzazione di questa asociazione mafiosa e il suo potere nell’impero economico sia in Campania sia nel mondo.
Se credi che la realtà ha molte sfumature, questo racconto ti può interessare. Mi è piaciuto perché mi ha trasportato nei luoghi che descrive e anche perché mi ha fatto scoprire una versione diversa della realtà, non solo economica.
Credo che sia un’opera adeguata al livello B2.
Il treno dei bambini di Viola Ardone
È un romanzo storico che si sviluppa a Napoli nel 1946, dopo la seconda guerra. Parla del programma di solidarietà organizzato del partito comunista , che consisteva nel trasferimento dei bambini poveri dal Sud alle famiglie benestanti del Nord e del centro di Italia.
Il protagonista è un bambino di sette anni che è accolto da una famiglia di Modena che gli dà molto affetto.
È un libro con uno stile semplice, ma molto profondo e pieno di tenerezza. Inoltre ci fa riflettere sulle politiche di solidarietà in tempo di crisi, argomento di grande attualità.

Agatha Christie is the type of writer who might have you believing that YOU are the murderer in her novels! Again, I was thrown off the scent of the real killer and was ready to blame others, I failed. It felt good be played the fool reading a cracking good mystery. Very good to practise all tenses !
Description: Engaging, entertaining, exciting.

It´s about an in love and happy couple (Gerry & Holly)
until his death. Since that moment her life changed a 100% but Gerry came back
to her life in an amazing way. He had left a lot of letters to help her to know
how to live her new life without him, each note has a "PS I love you"
at the end of them.
Thanks to those letters and her helpfull family and friends she had been able
to go on and be brave and keep enjoying her life.

The book´s set in the summer of 1922 in New York. The plot focuses mainly in the mysterious millionaire Gatsby who wants only one thing: to find again the woman of his dreams, Daisy, because she is the woman that he is in love with. The story doesn´t end very well but it´s worth reading.

Suddenly, a woman called Smita Shan appears and says that she is his lawyer, so she rescued him. When
she asked Ram if he cheated, he tells her that he is lucky and he started to
explain each answer to her.

Comment:
An important surgeon's wife arrives at the emergency room wearing strange clothes and a red wig. After a while, she dies. The doctor who attend her, Dr. Maxine Cassidy suspects murder and she starts an investigation to find the killer.
Description: Easy-to-read, unexpected.
All I want. Genre: Romance. Author: Margaret Johnson

Alex Faye, who is a personal assistant to Brad Courtney, fell in love with him the first time that she saw him. So, she will try to catch his attention but, immediately ,she will understand that love isn't as easy as it seems.

makes a trip from London to Istanbul

Tom has to meet with Angela in a American Bar in Taksi but Angela didn't come
to the appointment and she didn't answer the phone calls. The next morning Tom
goes to de Angela's job. Her boss Dunya tells Tom that his fiance had died in a
car accident. Tom is very surprised because on the bus on the way from airport
to Tahsi he sees Angela at the entrance of a building . Tom goes too English Consulate
but the answer to his doubts is the same.
With the help of a friend Kemal, Tom discovers that Angela is a prisioner of
her boss Dunya beacuse Angela had discovered that Dunya's company do drug
